At the end of October 2011 I had the pleasure of writing a guest post for Mother of All Trips, a great family travel blog written by Mara Gorman. I was very excited by this opportunity. I really admire Mara and all she has done with her family. Even with hectic school and work schedules she gets her family out on a regular basis to explore the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. and beyond. We share a similar passion for good food, yummy desserts and swap Philly tips from time to time.
Beyond my admiration, this was also a chance for me to really stretch my writing muscles. After all, writing for your own blog is one thing, but writing for someone else’s, especially a blog you really admire, is completely different. I had to stay focused and triple, no quadruple, check my grammar. I forced myself to edit in ways I never had before. The end result is something I am quite proud of.
Dreaming of Family Travel to China went up the day before we left for the Big Island of Hawaii. I never got to spread the word as much as I would have liked. So now is my chance.
The post focuses on our trip to Beijing in December 2010. Dek had just begun to walk. He was a little late to join the walking game compared to his other little friends. Apparently he had a lot of lost time to make up for. What better place to play catch up than some of the world’s most fascinating historic sights?
Enjoy the post and a few outtake photos (below) that didn’t make the final cut. I had a lot of fun sharing my story with a few new readers. If you haven’t checked Mother of All Trips out already now is your chance. Enjoy!

I love these pics of Dek learning to walk in Beijing. What a great story for him to tell when he’s older!
