It’s another Travel Tips Tuesday! Join Suitcases and Sippy Cups and I by linking up your best travel tips at the bottom of this post!
Last week I told you to borrow as much as possible from friends and family when you are traveling to visit them. But what about when you don’t know anyone where you are going? Do you still have to haul all your baby gear on the plane?
No! Do a quick Internet search for baby gear rental agencies in your destination.
Tip: Rent It, Don’t Pack It!
When we flew to Maui with a 5 months old Dek we rented a pack n’ play for about $35 for a 9-day stay. Renting allowed us to carry less on the plane plus cost about the same as if we had checked the crib as luggage.
Cribs aren’t all you can get though. I have a friend that goes to Maui every year. She rents car seats, beach toys, hotel toys and cribs for her kids from the same agency.
If you are staying at a hotel see what they have available. Usually they have cribs and roll away beds on hand for younger guests. Ask the concierge if they can recommend a rental company for anything else you might need.
Save your luggage allowance for shoes
You have enough to carry around with a kid in tow. If you can save a little room in your suitcase, who knows, maybe you can fit in that impractical pair of shoes you always dreamt of packing. You know the ones… We all have them.

What a great tip for those traveling with little ones. I had no idea that you could rent stuff like that.

I agree with Tonya–not too many people would even think to rent! Great advice–especially for parents-to-be!

Hey Keryn, My friend runs a company called Tots on the Go which has baby gear rentals in several states. We recently used them in South Carolina and they were amazing! I highly recommend them! It made our vacation so much easier to not have to bring all of that. And they deliver and pick up!

We rent everytime we fly. We even rent a stroller and just use a carrier for the baby (it’s best to let walkers burn off steam in the airport anyway!) That way we avoid getting our stroller banged up in baggage.
