Friday Photo Memories: First Trip to Portland

August 9, 2012

Travel Issues

I have a lot of photos. That is putting it mildly. I’ve taken tens of thousands of photos since my dad first handed me a camera when I was 8 years old. For the rest of the summer, and maybe beyond, I’m going to dive into my archives and rediscover a few fun adventures I’ve taken over the years with and without my family. Just a little something to add some oomph to your Friday as you head into the weekend.

Before kids it was just me and hubby wandering the globe. And look, we still do it!

Next week my road trip recap will bring us through Portland, Oregon. Mike and I visited back in February 2008, but hadn’t been back since. It was a very different weekend that first trip. We only spent one night. It was cold and rainy. We were just there to see a special exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. I had worked on the book for the show; my first at the job I had started a few months before.

Portland didn’t really win me over on that trip. Maybe that’s why it took us so long to go back. Over the years I had friends just rave about the city, but I didn’t see it. It was time to give it another go.

Stay tuned next week for more on our Oregon Road trip.

My very first book project at my old company. Still one of my favorites.

I love Portland! Your photos, and the occasional episode of Portlandia, make me want to pack my bags.

I have driven through Portland as a child but never have been to visit – when I think of visiting Oregon, I want to drive the coast and hike in the woods, not visit a city!

I’m definitely curious to see how your re-visit went because I share your original opinion of Portland. I’ve never really been impressed with the city, and I’ve had cause to be there reasonably often. I’m hoping that you found something in the city that I’ve never seen.

Wonder if you will like it when you go back? Wonder if you will see it with different eyes!
