- The Rough Guide Japan (5th Edition, February 2011) – this guidebook gave us plenty of practical information to get to and learn about the sights we were seeing
- Eyewitness Travel Japan (2007) – not so useful when you need practical information, but it does have plenty of photographs to get your wanderlust going and also interesting maps and details on the sights.
