5 Green and Fair Trade Gifts For Children That Inspire Travel
The holidays are fast approaching and not surprisingly, I already have gifts on my mind. As a busy mom of two, I prefer to shop early and efficiently – I don’t have time for “last minute” anything these days. With that said, I aim to shop with a conscience mind for green and fair trade gifts for kids when possible. If I can purchase gifts for loved ones and help socially responsible companies at the same time, great! Below is a list of my favorite toys from green (and/or) fair trade companies. These toys in particular follow a travel theme and aim to inspire travel in little ones of all ages.
Trains. You can inspire travel and a sense of exploration with this adorable Green Toys train. The train is made of 100% recycled plastic milk jugs and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions – how cool is that?
Puzzles. Teach a child about the great big world and the endless possibilities for travel with this eco-friendly world map floor puzzle from Petit Collage. This puzzle is made with recycled paper and printed with vegetable inks.
Monkeys. You can introduce a little one to animals far and wide with this delightful stuffed Monkey from Under The Nile. Under the Nile is a fair trade company that exclusively imports organic Egyptian cotton baby clothing in the United States.
Helicopters. What’s more exciting than seeing the world from above? Help create an imaginary world filled with adventure by gifting this Tegu wooden helicopter. All of Tegu’s wooden (and magnet) toys are built at the company’s manufacturing plant in Honduras, which helps employ over 200 local Hondurans. The wooden toys are built from hardwood sourced in Honduras’ forests.
Cruise Ship. Lastly, if you really want to bring the adventure of travel and the high seas home, look no further than this larger than life cruise ship from PlayMobil. Mostly made in Germany, this cruise ship includes all the bells and whistles for imaginative play.
