TASTE of chicken jar pie at Vernal Brewing Company

 In Food, Restaurants

Welcome to TASTE, a delicious part of Walking On Travels that will give you ideas for your next dining adventure with or without your kids. For many of us, we loved checking out the latest restaurant before we had kids, but we forgot about food after the baby was born. It is time to reignite those taste buds and get excited about what is out there to be devoured and enjoyed.

What: Chicken Jar Pie-Roasted chicken, edamame, carrots and potatoes in a rich creamy herb sauce, topped with a puff pastry.

Where: Vernal Brewing Company, 55 South 500 East Vernal, UT 84078

Why: The presentation of this dish is reason enough to try it. We went to the Vernal Brewing Company expecting to be impressed with their craft beers, not their food. Don’t get me wrong, I drank a wonderful wheat beer with my meal. But two months later, we are still talking about the food. This dish is a deliciously fun twist on the chicken pot pie. The edamame is unexpected but pleasant addition to the vegetable medley.  The creamy herb sauce is ridiculously flavorful. Everyone at the table took a taste to try to determine what blend of herbs was in the sauce. The only thing everyone agreed on was that there was thyme in the dish. If you are a fan of chicken pot pie, this dish is a must try. If you enjoy craft beer, pair this dish with their wheat beer.

The restaurant has an impressive garden next to their outdoor patio. This was a great place to walk around while waiting for our food. My kids aren’t the most patient when waiting for food, and this was a fun activity. It was great to see many of the foods we would be eating grown on their property.
