Friday Postcards from the Eiffel Tower Carousel

 In Europe

Carousels seem to be everywhere in Paris. We found one at the bottom of the steps at Sacre Coeur. I walked past one in Tuileries. They range from traditional to eclectic. One of they boys’ favorite carousels on our recent trip to Paris was just across the street from the Eiffel Tower along the river.

This two-level carousel had the usual horses, but there was also a motorcycle, train, tiger, ostrich and even a horse on wheels. For about three euros (one of the pricier carousels you will find in the city. Most are about two euros per kid.) the boys had a few minutes of fun with their dad as they whirled around and he made sure no one fell of their vehicles.

Originally we weren’t going to visit this particular carousel until the end of our trip to Paris. We were scheduled on a night tour to the top of the Eiffel Tower and thought we would pop by the carousel as the sun set before we went to the top. We happened to be close by on our walk home from the train station after a gorgeous day at Versailles and I figured, why not? We could always ride it twice. Thank goodness we went early! Our trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower was drenched with rain from bottom to top and more was coming down. A ride on the carousel wouldn’t have been as exciting with rain coats and umbrellas.

When was the last time you rode a carousel?

Beautiful! I really love the shot of the carousel and Eiffel Tower together. Definitely a postcard shot!

We ride a carousel every year on our traditional family vacation in Newport. Eaton’s Beach has a lovely carousel and if it’s not crowded, the operater lets the kids have extra long rides.

I share your boys’ love of carousels and love to photograph them. One of my favourites is in Bandol, south of France from around 1900’s.
