Friday Postcards from atop the Eiffel Tower in the rain

 In Europe

On our last night in Paris we rode up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We wanted to catch the view and the sunset. One problem- it was raining. I mean really raining. Clouds passed by as we went to the top. Sometimes we could see the ground below, sometimes we couldn’t see a thing. This was a bit disappointing.

However, one thing we learned on our spring trip through Europe is that rain keeps the crowds away. As the sun set and darkness took over we found ourselves completely alone on one of the top platforms. How could that be possible? This was the Eiffel Tower. We gazed up at the lights on the tower as we tried to block a bit of the rain with our umbrellas. It might have been wet, but it was still magical.

We timed our decent so we could catch the hourly light show from the perfect viewing spot one street back. The boys were entranced. (Oh let’s be real. I was entranced too. If you come to Paris and don’t get a little giddy when you see the Eiffel Tower in all her glitter and glory than you don’t deserve to be there.)

Rain may have dampened our trip to the top, but it proved to be one of our favorite memories from the trip. It’s not every day a family gets the Eiffel Tower to themselves.

Where have you enjoyed the rain lately?

I was up there in the rain and wind last year. At first I was disappointed, but then I realised that it provided a different magic.

Love it! Your photos are amazing & really capture the magic. And visiting the Eiffel Tower with no crowds? That’s my kind of adventure. It rained a bit during our travels in Sonoma this spring, but we didn’t let it stop us from enjoying a few wineries & doing a little tasting.
