True or false- Travel puts a damper on your workout routine goals?

If you mentally checked off “true” welcome to my club. If you checked off “false,” I want to talk to you and hear how you do it.

EVEN Hotel RockvilleI’m not great about sticking to a workout routine at home, much less when I travel. I may hit 10,000 steps on my FitBit Charger, but I couldn’t tell you how I did it. Excuses are also made– there is no time, the hotel has no gym, or the gym is so small that even if I try to workout I feel like the walls are closing in on me. If I don’t want to work out in the gym, I am stuck in a tiny hotel room, praying I can somehow do some yoga or get a core workout finished without banging into walls and furniture.

EVEN Hotels saw a gaping hole in the hotel market, and swooped in with an answer. Instead of hiding the tiny gym, they make it big and put it right up front so you can see it as you are walking by and checking into the hotel. Don’t worry. The windows are partially frosted, so you won’t have an audience while you run.

EVEN Hotel RockvilleRecently I got the chance to check out EVEN Hotel Rockville in Maryland just north of Washington, DC. Vibrant green plants climbed the front of the hotel, with comfy seating arrangements sprinkled throughout the patio. A refreshing sip of lemon mint infused water welcomed me through the doors as I headed to the check in desk. The staff was kind, and knowledgeable about the area, and even accommodated me when I asked for my room to be switched when I found out it was right across from the elevator.

EVEN Hotel RockvilleThe first floor boasted a full gym with treadmills, elliptical, weights and other exercise gear I don’t even know what to do with, much less name. There was also the Cork & Kale™ Market and Bar where guests could grab healthy options, including fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, oatmeal, tea, veggies, and even a glass of wine at night. The front desk staff was also able to give me recommendations for dinner, including the restaurants at Pike & Rose, a new restaurant, shopping and living complex that is still being built, but is already home to some very tasty bites in Rockville.

EVEN Hotel Rockville
My first glimpse of EVEN Hotel Rockville was certainly geared towards healthy living, but my room is what brought it all down to a personal level. As I walked in I noticed that there was cork flooring, perfect for a workout, which is exactly what the designers had in mind. A yoga mat, exercise ball and Yoga block were waiting for me, as well as a booklet full of different exercise routines and stretches. Most importantly, there was room to actually do a work out! I dumped my things on one of the plush, white double beds and popped on the TV. Several channels featured a personal trainer walking me through a workout that could make my core, arms, legs, bottom and back burn, or give me that cardio boost I need first thing in the morning. There was even a pole attached to one wall, so I could use a resistance band to work even more muscles.

EVEN Hotel RockvilleEVEN Hotel RockvilleOutside of the fitness experience, EVEN Hotel Rockville was set in a great location if you want to shop, eat, run, bike, walk, hike, or head down to Washington, DC. All of the shops around the hotel were fitness oriented—REI, the Vitamine Shoppe, RoadRunner Sports Rockville, Tennis Topia and Trader Joe’s. This area is very commercial and doesn’t scream residential, but you have access to more than you may think, especially if you have a car.

Overall, if you are looking for an easy way to keep up with your fitness goals, and you don’t want to have to worry about finding a gym the next time you are in town, EVEN Hotel Rockville is a great option for you. The beds were comfy, the market was perfect for a late night snack, and I even brought a little glass of white wine back to my room to enjoy while I watched a show. It’s the simple things that make travel truly blissful, and even if I grumbled over my morning workout, at least I got it done.
