One of the many dream trips you could win with Expedia and St. Jude

Cancer. The Big C. This is scary when you are adult, even scarier when you are a kid. Just imagine if you were a child, just beginning to explore the world around you, knowing that you may not get to be that fireman, astronaut or doctor you had just begun to dream you could be. What if your family couldn’t afford the care you needed to make you better and help you fulfill those childhood dreams? This is where St. Jude comes in.

Since 1962 St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital has been helping families and making strides in the effort to cure children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. The hospital is dependent on public contributions. With a daily operating cost of over $1.8 million dollars you can imagine how much they need our help.

As part of National Cancer Awareness month, Expedia has teamed up with St. Jude to raise money through a giveaway of 150 trips plus coupons that can get you out the door and experiencing the trip of a life time this year. With just a $5 donation you can enter your name in the drawing for one of these incredible prizes, some to spots you may never have thought possible.

100% of the proceeds will go to St. Jude

Expedia is not taking a dime of the money donated. Hotels have contributed all prizes along with a few airlines. No administrative fees or overhead costs are being paid with this money. It will go solely to research and treatment of kids who come from all 50 states and across the globe.

Why St. Jude is worth the investment

  • No family ever pays St. Jude for anything.
  • Research findings at St. Jude are shared freely with doctors and scientists all over the world.
  • St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today.
  • On average, 7,800 active patients visit the hospital each year, most of whom are treated on an outpatient basis.
  • St. Jude has 78 inpatient beds and treats upwards of 260 patients each day.

Dream Trips

Now that you know why you should help, let’s talk about those dream trips you could win through Expedia. How’s a little Bali Bliss sound? Or a stay at the Four Seasons Resort Marrakech in Morocco? Shop til you drop weekend in New York at the Pierre is really what you crave? Ski at some of the top resorts in North America? I know what I’m dreaming about- a 5-night stay for two in the NIZUC Resort & Spa in Cancun.

Grab a friend, your partner or one of your kids and head down to this gorgeous resort that faces the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef in the world. Talk about awesome snorkeling opportunities! Enjoy the resort’s multiple pools, six world-class restaurants, private jetty, and enjoy a $100 credit at the 30,000 square foot spa.

Oh, and did I mention this trip includes $1500 towards airfare?! Come on, $5 could get you a trip valued at almost $4500, not to mention all that relaxation you will get by slipping away for a few days on the beach. What are you waiting for? Donate!

Getting personal

These trips are amazing, and by entering you will help in the fight against cancer. This is no small undertaking, but every little bit makes a difference.

Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer. Whether it is a child, parent, friend, or co-worker, chances are you know someone who has experienced life with cancer. Even me. When I was in college my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. This was devastating to me, his youngest daughter, who thought of her dad as her superhero. Thankfully the doctors caught it early and after 5 years of remission he was considered cured.

I look at my boys and think about the same thing happening to them. Cancer runs pretty strong in our family. To not be able to fix the “boo boo” or “awwweee” that has crept into my child’s system would break my heart in two. I wouldn’t know where to begin to tackle this kind of disease or how we would afford it. Knowing that St. Jude is constantly working to help children and their families get through cancer treatment, even helping with housing and meals to lighten the burden of expenses, makes an huge difference on the hopes and spirits of families effected now and in the future.

So how about it? Will you join me in the fight against cancer one $5 donation at a time? You have nothing to loose! You could win the trip of a lifetime AND help cure cancer all in one easy click. Not a bad way to spend that money you were about to use to buy a cheeseburger and fries, huh? Donate now!

Many thanks to Anne Taylor Hartzell of Hip Travel Mama and Expedia for inviting me to participate in this life-changing cause. Together we can all make a difference in a child’s life this year.
