Ski season is finally here! And you know what that means. Time to head up to the mountains with your little ones and see what all that snow has to offer.
Winter sports are fabulous, but not every resort has enough to keep the kids entertained. Silver Star Mountain Resort in British Columbia (Canada) may be small, but its gorgeous champagne powder packs a punch. There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained, whether you enjoy skiing, tubing, eating or just a few games of bowling.
The Snowsports Adventure Centre is the perfect spot to introduce your kids to skiing or snowboarding. They can even give Nordic skiing a go if so inclined. Kids as young as 3 years old can enjoy a ski lesson while attending Star Kids Daycare, allowing mom and dad a little quiet time on the slopes. Instructors are patient, enthusiastic and make sure the kids have a lot of fun while they learn.
Once the sun goes down and the lifts shut off for the night the tube runs start to heat up. Tube Town Adventure Park is the place to be when not skiing or snowboarding. The tube lifts allow you and your child to conserve your energy, so you can put maximum effort into one epic tube ride. Ice skating and hockey are also available in the park, giving you plenty to do with the kids all day long.
Pinheads Bowling Alley offers four lanes of 10-pin bowling. The ski in, ski out facility makes it an easy spot to grab a bite to eat and warm up in between runs down the mountain. Automatic bumper rails allow little ones to experience all of the joy and none of the disappointments of bowling, but won’t let mom and dad get off too easy.
Love rock climbing or been dying to give it a go? The 19-meter and 7-meter indoor climbing walls will let you test your skills, no matter your level. There are even instructors on hand to give experienced climbers a few tips or get newbies started for the first time.
Sometimes the most fun you can have is a bit of food with some lively conversation around the dinner table. Silver Star has more than enough spots to sit down, warm up and fill your bellies. Restaurant staffs are friendly, accustom to rowdy families coming in from a day on the slopes and ready to help you make some delicious memories. Grab a burger at the Bulldog Grand Café, soup and sandwiches at Long John’s Pub, or a pizza to go from HB Pizza. Of course our family favorite has to be Bugaboos Bakery Café. This Silver Star institution makes incredible croissants, sticky buns and one mean brie sandwich that warms up your insides and keeps you fueled up all morning. They also make one fabulous cup of coffee.
