Friday Postcards of the mural at Le Meridien New Orleans

 In Hotels, USA

Every now and then I get to attend a hotel opening or renovation party. Some are open to the public, while others are media only. This is not to make you jealous I swear. It’s just to give you a little insight into how the hotel industry works and how you could be partaking too.

In the spring I got to go down to Louisiana for the launch of the Le Meridien New Orleans, a gorgeous hotel in the Arts District that has brought comfort, color and luxury to this little corner of the Crescent City.

Spirits were flowing and there was an abundance of food. A coffee artist had been brought in to make latte art, but even more fun was the tile mural that was set up in the lobby. An artist had created the black and white drawing on the tiles, but guests were supposed to add color to this massive piece. Although we as adults don’t carry crayons and color books with us (unless you have kids), I saw more than one adult having fun as they got to do a little coloring. It was an activity that guests kept going back to as well.

Le Meridien has been rolling out cultural programing throughout their brand that embraces the unique aspects of the destination their hotels are located in. In New Orleans, they have teamed up with a local art museum to allow guests to get into the museum with their keycard for free. The mural just added to that sense of culture and a life filled with more art. For a few moments anyone who picked up a paint brush was a child again as they colored in churches, lights, trolleys and historic monuments from New Orleans. I’ve never gotten to paint at a hotel before, but brands better listen up. This was one activity that they should have at parties in the future.

When was the last time you got to do some painting?

This is such a great program! I wish more hotels would incorporate something like this. I love all that tile work.

Oh wow! That is absolutely awesome! Although I might hesitate on coloring it for the fear of ruining it altogether. Did you add color to the mural? 🙂

Great partnership between Le Meridien and the art museum. Looks like a lot of fun.
