Friday Postcards from Manarola Italy with Kids

 In Europe

Gelato really is the best bribe for any kid when you are in Italy. Even if what you are doing will be fun, the promise of gelato will get you more smiles as you hike up that steep incline to get to the church at the top of the tiny Cinque Terre town of Manarola.

Manarola was the one town we got off the ferry and poked around in for more than a half an hour. We wanted to explore each of the towns, but with three kids in tow and the heat climbing with the sun, we knew our limits. We didn’t want to rush ourselves either. My friend Tai (who was traveling with her daughter) and I were looking forward to a delectable meal filled with pasta and wine in one of the hill towns of the Cinque Terre. We wanted to pop in the shops and dip our toes into the sea. Manarola was small and manageable with easy access to the water. Even better, the higher you walked the more tourists you left behind. We found a cute little restaurant with covered outdoor seating, farm-fresh pesto and handmade noodles paired with a crisp white wine to cool us off. The kids could run around while we sat and enjoyed the last sips in our bottle.

Promises of gelato were to be fulfilled next. The kids had been rock stars throughout the day. No one fell off the ferry. No one fell off the rocks we were sitting on at different ports to get back on the ferry. There were a few meltdowns, but nothing the promise of that gelato couldn’t fix. With lunch behind us we got them their cones (strawberry of course!) and enjoyed the remainder of our day in the Manarola Italy.

No parent can survive travel with kids without a bit of gently persuasion 🙂

Your photos look lovely, the colours are so vibrant! I’ve never been to the Cinque Terre- it’s great to see you were able to explore with kids in tow. We used ice-cream as our bribery while we were overseas, worked a treat!

Keryn, Manarola looks like a beautiful place for a daytrip, a place to explore and totally absorb yourself in the Italian delicacies. Thank you for joining #TheWeeklyPostcard
