Weekend fun in Keystone, Colorado
Splashes of white washed over the landscape as we headed higher up into the mountains. I could feel the temperature dropping even in the van. During a winter where much of the country has been overrun by blizzards, snow drifts and ice, my family was excited to finally get out into some fabulous powder, try some skiing and make a few winter memories. After all, Seattle hadn’t seen much snow in over a year. My husband and I picked up snowboarding when we first moved out to Seattle. What better way to beat the gray and gloom of winters in the Pacific Northwest? Every since the boys were born it has been tricky, especially for me, to get up to our local mountains. Between giving birth, recovering from a snowboard-related shoulder injury and dealing with sleepless nights as we go through the usual bouts of teething, colds and childhood woos, my husband Mike and I hadn’t had many photo opts with our kids in the snow Keystone Resort made it easy to play with our kids, and even sneak in a little couple time in together. Our trip had its family moments, but also included Dek learning to stop on his skis, Keryn (that’s me) finally feeling comfortable with her turns on her snowboard, Ty coloring at a Kidtopia event (more on that later), and Keryn and Mike sneaking off for a little cross country skiing without the kids. Our times alone are rare, especially when on vacation, so this was a very big treat for us. Stay tuned for more specifics on our stay in Keystone, Colorado, and how you and your family can make a few snow-filled memories of your own.
